Girls win first-ever flag football game
By Michael Butler
It was a momentous day. The Tallassee High School flag football program kicked off with a 7-6 win on Thursday, Aug. 22 at J.E. "Hot" O'Brien Stadium. It was game one of an 11-game slate of the inaugural season.
"It was a good first game," said THS head coach Pat Love. "We've got to get better. We threw the ball to the wrong spot. We ran a couple of plays the wrong way."
Still, a win is a win.
Tallassee got its points in the third quarter from London O'Neal, the daughter of the varsity boys coach L.A. O'Neal. She caught a 13-yard pass from Regan Easterwood for a touchdown and caught another across the goal line for the conversion and a 7-0 lead.
The Lions got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter but the conversion failed to tie it with a quarterback pressure from Abbi Carwile.
"The hardest part is understanding how the game goes," added Love about the transition as a new program. "We've started at ground zero. I'm extremely proud of where they are right now and where they could be at the end of the year."
Tallassee (1-0) will play host to Valley (0-0) on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m.
