Tigers off to hot start

The Tallassee baseball team completed the first week of the season by sweeping a three-game homestand. The Tigers beat Central of Clay County 11-1 in six innings on opening day behind four solid innings from starter Collier Bonner.

The pitching continued with wins on Thursday and Friday at Southside Field. THS defeated Russell County 6-2 and Lee 12-2 in five innings.

Dee Williams went the distance in the win over the Warriors. The senior allowed just one earned run while striking out ten over seven innings. He gave up two hits and did not issue a walk. In addition, he had one of Tallassee's three hits on the night, driving in two.

Parker Neighbors, making his first varsity start on Friday, pitched three innings allowing one earned run in the Tigers' victory. Neighbors struck out six and walked one. Casey Baynes pitched two shutout innings. Baynes has four innings of relief work without allowing a run. Baynes, Will Peters and Jake Burton had two hits each. Burton had three RBIs.

Tallassee's scheduled game with LAMP on Monday was postponed for Tuesday. The 9th grade team will play at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity Tigers (3-0) and Eagles (2-0). The nightcap will be broadcast on 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM. Live video will be on Tallassee Times TV and Facebook Live. Audio is simulcast on Spectrum Cable Channel 97 and the TuneIn Radio App.
