The Tallassee 10-and-under baseball all-stars have played Northport five times this summer. One of those was for the USSSA Alabama Championship on June 23, an 8-2 win.

“This is the best team in the state,” head coach Coy Thomas said after winning the state championship in Oxford.

As fate would have it, the two met again for the USSSA World Series title in Baton Rouge, La. on July 14. This one went to the team from Tuscaloosa County, 8-0. Tallassee finishes the all-star season with an 18-2 record with their only two defeats coming at the hands of Northport.

“Our league is strong," said Thomas. "The Northport coached asked how many kids we have. We’ve got 44 kids in 10U. He’s like, ‘I can’t believe y’all have got that amount of talent out of 44 kids.’ He had 170 kids to choose from. He was impressed.”

Tallassee was 7-2 in Louisiana versus teams from all over the Southeast. After dropping their first game to Northport 8-5, the Tigers topped Lamar County in the consolation bracket to make it to the finals. They beat Northport in the first game 13-0 before falling in the championship.

The 12U all-stars were also in Baton Rouge going 3-3. They finished 16-6 overall. The 12U boys beat St. Bernard (9-0), Westside (10-1) and Winthrop (14-11). Their losses were to Winthrop (10-1), St. James (9-2) and Bloomfield (5-3).
