All-Star teams set for summer action

It's all-star season. The season after the regular season was absent last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021 it returns.

Tallassee will field several baseball and softball teams this summer. Play is already underway for some.

The 6U, 8U and 12U softball all-stars have already begun USA Pre-Area Tournaments. Last week, the girls were in Wetumpka - and the 6U team brought back the championship trophy.

"It was exciting being the director and handing out the trophies," Tallassee commissioner Jaiton Stephens said.

Tallassee will host two of the age groups in the second pre-area tourney this week.

"We'd love to see Tallassee out like they were in Wetumpka," Stephens added. "Come on out in the sunshine and enjoy a hamburger."

The 8U and 12U teams will play locally. The 6U team will be in Millbrook. Admission for the tournament in Tallassee is $8 per day and free to those 12 and under.

Tallassee's 7/8 baseball all-stars will also be hosting tournament play this week. The DYB sub-district is being held in East Tallassee beginning on Thursday, June 10. The 9/10 team travels to Bellingrath in Montgomery on the same day. Tallassee does not have an 11/12 team.

"This is the first year we have not fielded an 11/12-year-old all-star team. We only had six 12-year-olds in the league this year," commissioner Abe Rigsby said. "I hope more kids decide to participate next year. We only had two teams this year in that age group. I want to encourage parents to keep their kids involved as long as they can."

Rigsby still encourages support for Tallassee's other two squads.

"I encourage folks to come out to the ballfield and support these kids," he said.

Tickets to the sub-district in Tallassee will be $7 each, $3 each for 7-12-year-olds, and free for children 6 and under.

The Tallassee Babe Ruth League will have two all-star teams, a 13-year-old group and a 15-and-under team.

Tallassee is hosting two Babe Ruth all-star tournaments this year.

"We're surprised and honored to get a district and state tournament in the same year. It's rare to get both," commissioner Shane Yankey said. "We're appreciative to the high school for allowing us to use the high school field to host both."

The last time Tallassee hosted the state tournament was 2015. The district begins on June 25 and will include both Tallassee teams. The state will feature the 15-and-under division.

Tickets will be $5 dollars for those seven and older and free for children six and under.
