All-star update - 2 teams still playing

By Michael Butler

One team is a state champion. The other may be on their way.

Two Tallassee teams are still competing in all-star tournaments. The state champion 15U baseball squad will be traveling to Babe Ruth Regionals this week in Pine Bluff, Ark. The 8U softball stars are playing in the Dixie Youth Darlings Division State Tournament in Scottsboro.

Tallassee has had much success in recent years with baseball and softball all-star tournaments. In 15U Babe Ruth play, Tallassee has won four state titles in eight years. The players on the 8U girls team are familiar with championship rings too with back-to-back state titles in 6U inlcuding the World Series championship last year.

The girls still have some work to do before punching their ticket back to the World Series. The boys' quest for the World Series begins on July 19 at 1 p.m. vs. West Texas.

"We need to be on our game in order to stay in the winners' bracket," head coach Justin Ellis said. "Good pitching and good defense will be essential."

1300 WTLS/106.5 FM and Tallassee Times will provide updates on Facebook and Twitter.
