1 in custody so far in 1st Avenue shooting

One subject has turned himself in regarding a Thursday evening shooting in Jordanville that left three injured.

28-year-old black male Rondarius Hooks was taken in by authorities in connection with the March 11 incident.

Tallassee police chief Matthew Higgins noted in a press release that gunshots were exchanged around 7 p.m. on 1st Avenue in Tallassee.

"Units located several shell casings and evidence that someone had been injured," Higgins said. "While on scene we received a report that there was a victim at the Tallassee emergency room. Investigators responded and were advised that there were three gunshot victims."

Two of the victims were treated for minor injuries. The third had serious injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital for further treatment.

"Prior to being transported, the victim confirmed the identity of the suspect in the shooting," Higgins added.

On Friday, March 12 at approximately 12:30 a.m. Hooks turned himself in. He has been charged with three counts of assault in the first degree and placed in the Elmore County Jail.

The rapid fire gunshots could be heard throughout areas of the city. Many heard the sounds while at the Tallassee High School baseball game vs. Elmore County at Southside Field. The case is ongoing.
