McCaig hopes to continue on board

Contributed

My name is Ruthanne McCaig and I am pleased to announce that I am running for reelection to the Tallassee City Board of Education in Ward 4. I have served in this position since 2008 and I have a passion for serving the students and citizens of Tallassee.

I feel I have the necessary skills to serve as a member of the Board of Education as a parent, grandparent and former teacher in the Tallassee City School System for 29 years. I always spend time and effort studying issues facing the board to make the best decision possible to strengthen and enhance our wonderful school system.

My family has lived in Tallassee for 43 years and I taught for two years in the Elmore County School system before beginning my long career as an elementary teacher in Tallassee. Both of my children attended and graduated from Tallassee City Schools and three of my grandchildren now attend school in Tallassee.

I am very proud of the leadership team and faculty who lead, teach and care for the students of Tallassee City Schools. Our system was accredited again by AdvancED in 2016 and a Strategic Plan was adopted this year to ensure that our schools have a comprehensive plan for Leadership and Governance, Student Achievement, Resources, and Communication.

I feel that the iPad Initiative at the high school level and now the middle school level beginning this school year, is a cutting edge tool offered by our system. I have seen the benefits from the iPad  Initiative and fully
support the plans to use and refine this wonderful teaching tool.

The purchase of a building to house the expansion of Career Tech educational opportunities (partnered with Trenholm State Community College) for Tallassee students at the high school level offers much needed training in areas which will directly benefit the students as well as the community by producing trained graduates for the local job market.  In addition to these skills, the academic classes offered through the dual enrollment program with Trenholm State Community College give our students the ability to take college courses while still in high school.

An important role of a board member is to look to the future and my dream is to have a new high school.  This is one of the items in the current five year Capital Plan and the Strategic Plan will include a facility assessment to determine the status of the current buildings and the future needs of the system.

I hope to continue serving the citizens of Tallassee as the board member from Ward 4.
