Soccer Team “Finding Its Rhythm”

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee boys’ soccer team has already played 11 matches. Some would say the competition has been even-steven – well four times.

The Tigers are 5-2 with four ties.

“We’ve played a lot larger schools in the early season to test ourselves and prepare for area play,” head coach Matthew Tarpley said.

The ties have come against Class 7A Opelika, 6A Park Crossing, and 5A Brewbaker Tech and Carroll of Ozark.

Tallassee’s two defeats have come against the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in Class 4A, Westminster of Oak Mountain (4-1) and Trinity of Montgomery (4-0). Westminster was last year’s state champion.

The Trinity loss was an area setback, but the Tigers bounced back with an area win over another top ten foe, Catholic (4-0) on Thursday.

“The boys’ team is starting to find its rhythm, after having to adjust to life after Irvin (Delfin),” said Tarpley. “We are moving the ball better and have found some chemistry that should lead to future success as the season continues.”

Lewis Moseley and Frank Diego lead the team in goals scored with 10 each. Preston Parker has scored five goals. Moseley is the team leader in assists with nine.

Tallassee’s next match will be on Monday, March 9 at Carver in Montgomery at 5:30.
