A new business is about to open at 729 Kent Road in Tallassee. The Zone, a baseball and softball training facility, will begin operation on Feb. 14.
“It’s batting cages. We’ve got some stations set up to do pitching. We’ll have some tee stations set up,” said owner Josh Rigsby. “I had a lady reach out and ask if I had any place where her kids could train softball. That kind of sparked the idea.
“It’s heated and cooled. It’ll keep you dry. It should be quite comfortable to do training year-round.”

Rigsby has already sampled the place with a birthday party and hopes to have more of the same as an event center but expects the business to grow the most through memberships.
“When you sign up, it’ll send you an app to download on your phone. You’ll just swipe and go in. It’s set up per kid, but you get a discount if you have two kids.”
Rigsby noted that hours of operation will coincide with when kids can use it, primarily afternoons and weekends.
“If the kids are not in school, the cages will be open,” he said. “During the summer, we’ll have some summer hours.
