Tallassee Wrestling Streak Snapped

By Michael Butler

Streaks are meant to be broken. The Tallassee High School streak of consecutive duals match wins is finally over.

Tallassee ran the mark up to 73 in a row before falling in the Beast at the Beach finals to Wakulla, Fla. at Fort Walton Beach over the holiday break.

Wakulla beat the Tigers 37-33 to take the crown from THS, who had won the previous two “Beach” tournaments.

Tallassee went 6-1 at the prestigious event, something head coach John Mask is still proud of.

“It was a very tough tourney and we got better,” said Mask. “What an amazing tournament. I am so proud of each and every wrestler.”

Another Tallassee streak also ended, its regular season streak of team duals victories. That run peaked at 174 and lasted nearly five years.

Tallassee (24-1) will begin defense of its team duals state title on Jan. 2. Region duals start at 9 a.m. at St. James in Montgomery.
