December has arrived and with it many holiday activities in Tallassee. The annual Tallassee Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade highlights a busy month.

“We have a lot going on,” said Chamber executive director Carmen Rodgers. “Bring the kids.”

Events have been moved on the calendar due to rain in the forecast.

Among the newer traditions is the Christmas Tree Walk at Bell Park. It has been rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m.

On Friday, Dec. 12, the holiday market starts at 2 p.m. and will be followed by the tree lighting at 6, with both taking place at Veterans Park.

“Mayor (Joey) Wiginton will say a few words and count down to the Christmas tree lighting,” Rodgers said. “Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there.”

The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the East Tallassee Church of Christ and will conclude at First Methodist Church on the west side of the Tallapoosa River.

The holiday market continues on Saturday the 13th from 8-1.

“The Tallassee Redevelopment Authority is going to host the Windows of Wonder,” Rodgers added. “They’re asking the downtown businesses to decorate their windows with Christmas themes. They’re letting the community vote for their favorite.”

The Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center has a variety of Christmas-themed movies scheduled for December and a stage production of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” in the form of a radio play on Dec. 12 and 13.

Big Bear Lodge invites the community to its “Christmas Lights Show” at 1175 Andrews Mill Road in Tallassee. It is from 5-9 p.m. each night in December. Every Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Claus make a visit. There is a walk-thru area for children with 100 characters.
