There are four flag football teams in Alabama that remain undefeated: Central Phenix City, which ran the state’s longest win streak to 54 games this week, Austin, B.C. Rain and Tallassee. The Tigers improved to 12-0 with a 40-6 win over Satsuma in the second round of the Class 1A-5A playoffs on Wednesday at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium.
One streak ended, the team’s scoreless streak. No opponent had scored on the THS defense since Valley scored a touchdown on Oct. 9.
Satsuma broke the long drought with an interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. The game ended shortly after by way of the mercy rule. Still, the point differential was not nearly as lopsided as last year’s playoff win when Tallassee beat the same Gators’ team 68-0 in the first round.
“As long as we win, that’s all that matters,” said Tallassee head coach Pat Love regarding the end of the shutout streak.
Satsuma started the game with an impressive drive but came up empty on points.
“The defense kind of bent a little bit,” Love said. “(We) gave up a few more yards than we normally would, but kind of held when it mattered.”
The Gators put up 125 total yards of offense, the first team to surpass 100 yards in the past five games. Kam Tate and Marlee Osborne had an interception each for Tallassee.

Tallassee got 223 of its total 251 yards through the air. Cheyann Easterling was 17 of 25 with five touchdown passes and no interceptions. She ran for 37 yards on four carries with another score. Tate, Osborne, Reese Gough, London O’Neal and Lila Kate Fulgham had TD receptions.
“We spread the ball around,” Love added.
Next up will be Catholic (19-4), the team that put Tallassee out of the playoffs last season with a 6-0 defeat in the semifinals. The Knights went on to win the state championship.
The game will be played in Montgomery on Tuesday, Nov. 18 with start time of 6 p.m.
