Tigers Dominate in Shutout of Talladega

By Michael Butler

Tallassee head football coach L.A. O’Neal said before Friday’s final region game at Talladega that he wanted to see his team “dominate for four quarters.” He might have gotten his wish. The Tigers put on a clinic in a 35-0 victory improving to 5-4 on the season.

“We’re peaking at the right time,” O’Neal said after the win. “We’re getting better every week. The defense has been playing lights out.”

The defense did dominate allowing Talladega (1-8) just 18 total yards. That included negative rushing yards (-15). Trent Morris completed his first 13 passes, going 14 of 17 for the game with 194 yards and three touchdowns.

Tallassee led 33-0 at halftime. A botched punt in the third quarter gave the Tigers a safety for second half’s only points with a running clock.

The THS offense had 293 yards of total offense and punted only once.

Cortland Roberts had a touchdown pass and an interception. Jaiden Gordon added two more TD passes and a one-handed pick. Jeremiah Reeves and Tiny Green picked up rushing scores.

“You want momentum going into the playoffs,” said O’Neal. “You want to be playing your best ball.”

Tallassee closes out the regular season on Thursday at Holtville. Kickoff will be a 7 p.m. Airtime will be at 6 on WTLS – Score 94.7/Fun 101.1 and Tallassee Times TV on YouTube.

The Tigers travel to American Christian for the first round of the playoffs on Nov. 7.
