It was a ‘do or die’ contest. The winner would clinch a post-season berth. The loser would be eliminated.
Tallassee took care of business in Montgomery locking up a playoff spot over St. James in a 13-7 win. THS improved to 4-4 and 3-3 in Class 4A/Region 3 play.
Last year. the matchup decided first place with the Tigers winning at J. E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium.
“That’s two years in a row,” said Tallassee head coach L. A. O’Neal. “That’s big.”
It was just the second road game of the season for Tallassee in eight games. The Tigers will close out the regular season with two more away games before hitting the road again for the first round.
“We had a great week of practice,” O’Neal added. “I thought we were going to get the shutout. We played a really good game defensively.”
St. James (2-7/2-4) got on the board in the game’s final two minutes, but Tra’mel McCoy covered an onside kick to preserve it.
Kendall Harris had two sacks for the defense and a fumble recovery.

THS quarterback Trent Morris was 13 of 17 for 237 yards and two touchdowns. He hit Hamp Love for the game’s only score of first half, a 55-yard score in the second quarter.
Jaiden “J-Man” Gordon hit paydirt on a 20-yard toss tight roping the sideline in the third quarter. The touchdown drive was set up on a 32-yard one-handed grab by Gordon that put the Tigers in the red zone.
Cortland Roberts caught six passes for 121 yards. Gordon had six receptions for 61.
