Flag Team Wins Region

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee flag football team beat Booker T. Washington 25-0 on Tuesday in Tuskegee to claim first place in Class 1A-5A/Region 3. The Tigers improved to 8-0 on the season.

Tallassee beat the Eagles 6-0 in the first matchup in Tallassee on Sept. 24. That was the same score after two quarters in this one.

“We struggled a little bit in the first half, but responded well in the second half,” said THS head coach Pat Love. “It was a good win. Winning the region was the first step in our team goals this year. Now it’s time to work even harder to try to achieve our goal overall of a state championship.”

The Tigers continued their domination on defense this season holding BTW to only 47 yards of total offense. They got interceptions by Marlee Osborne and Cheyann Easterling.

Easterling ran for a touchdown and threw for three more TDs connecting with Reese Gough, Kam Tate and London O’Neal.

Tallassee has allowed just 12 points over the past five games with three shutouts. The team is outscoring opponents 175-44 this year.

“This team is fun to watch,” said Love. “I’m proud of the girls. They’ve been working extremely hard.”

Tallassee’s scheduled game with Elmore County for Oct. 16 has been canceled. The Tigers will close out the regular season with home games against Alabama Christian and Marbury before the playoffs.
