“Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman!” The phrase from classic television described the figure as faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
Yes, Superman, the superhero from comic books, television and movies, is coming to the silver screen in Tallassee. The most recent film, “Superman” from 2025, will be shown at the Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center this weekend.
“We’ve done a lot of older movies,” Joey Wiginton, co-owner of Mount Vernon said. “We did the “King of Kings.” That was a new release and had good results with it. So, we thought we’d try Superman.”
There will be two Saturday show times at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A Sunday matinee will be at 2 p.m.
“Some people said, we’ve got ball games,” Wiginton said. “Not everybody watches ball games. Some of the dads may want to bring the kids by and come back and get them.”
Wiginton added that the 2:00 showing will be the open window between Alabama’s and Auburn’s games on Saturday.

The flick stars David Corenswet as Superman and has taken in over $615 million globally at the box office this year.
