Tallassee Trade Day will be on Saturday, Oct. 18. This year marks the return to King Street for the event that started in 1989. A barbecue contest is also being added and will take place in the downtown green space at James and Sistrunk Streets.
Jamie Thompson is helping to put on the barbecue portion of the weekend’s activities.
“We used to have it in Bell Park,” Thompson said. “One year it moved over to City Hall. Dale Segrest and several others started it. We just wanted to bring it back.”

Participants will file in on Friday evening, Oct. 17 night to begin preparing barbecue for judges and others who would like to sample the meats on Trade Day.
“On Friday, check in will be 6:00,” Thompson said. “Awards will be for Boston butts, chicken, ribs, camp stew and People’s Choice.”
Trophies and cash prizes will be given by the Tallassee Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s $25 per category,” Thompson noted of the entry fee. “It’s a lot of fun. I’ve done it many years.”
Those interested in entering may contact Thompson at 334-415-2421 or the Chamber office at 334-283-5151.
