Tigers Win in Battle of Unbeatens

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Lady Tigers got one score, but it was all they needed. The THS flag football team beat Booker T. Washington 6-0 on Wednesday at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium improving to 5-0. It was BTW’s first loss.

It was the second straight shutout for Tallassee, now 3-0 in Class 1A-5A/Region 3 play. The Tigers’ defense is allowing just six points per game this season.

“The D is playing great,” said Pat Love, Tallassee’s head coach. “We’re getting a good rush and have a bunch of picks. We’re not missing flags and holding everybody to short yardage.”

Booker T. was limited to only 75 yards of total offense and -3 rushing. Jordyn Morris and Kam Tate had two interceptions each.

Cheyann Easterling scored the game’s only touchdown. She finished with 41 rushing yards on 14 attempts. She was 7 of 19 passing for 75 yards. Easterling has accounted for 19 total touchdowns this season.

“We played well,” Love said. “BTW is a very good team. They’re fast and athletic. We did just enough to win. We’ve got to keep getting better.”

The Tigers’ next game with Loachapoka has been moved to Oct. 6. It will start at 4 p.m. prior to the Southside Middle School football game vs. Clanton at O’Brien Stadium.
