Plenty to Do at Tallassee Senior Center

By Michael Butler

If you are over 60 and looking for things to do, the Tallassee Senior Center welcomes you. A variety of activities fill the day at the facility at 445 Main Street in East Tallassee, which is open to walk-ins every weekday beginning at 8 a.m.

“I have about 30 on my roster now,” said manager Heather Sayers, who has seen the number of regulars double during her two years there. “We do games, exercise classes, arts and crafts.”

Bingo is the “biggest thing” according to Sayers.

“It’s a lot of fun. We take field trips. We went to Prattville last week and played unlimited Bingo. We’ve got another big Bingo event coming up on Halloween.”

Prizes are part of the fun with Bingo. “They love free stuff.”

The free stuff includes a complimentary meal for visitors daily and musical entertainment from the likes of Ray Funderburk and Suzy Seale. Plus, the center provides transportation.

Heather Sayers applies shaving cream to shower caps for a fun game with cheese puffs.

“We have a really good time,” Sayers added. “It warms my heart to go to work every day.”
