1st Saturday Event This Weekend

By: Jack Butler

Merchants and vendors will fill the downtown Tallassee area on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event is called “1st Saturday.”

“We were looking at ways of how we could attract more people downtown,” said Samantha Segrest, owner of the Book Nook and Meme Sue’s Bakery & Creamery. “We’ve seen some incredible artisans and crafters who are making very unique items. Let’s showcase that.”

Segrest said the response has been great.

“We have people who do jams and jellies, plants and copper castings. These are all local people.”

The plan is to have the event on the first Saturday of every month through December and maybe continue it in 2026.

Jailyn Lewis owns Tallassee Nutrition, next to Segrest’s business on Barnett Boulevard.

“We love to do things with all the businesses downtown, especially outside,” Lewis said.

Mill Collective owner Wendi Bearden welcomes visitors as well this weekend.

“We’ll be open and have several booths with clearance items, as well as great prices on fall and Halloween decor,” she said. “Learn how to slow stitch with Linda from 10-2. All items will be provided to learn this fun craft.”

To learn about becoming a vendor or for more information, contact Segrest or Lewis on Facebook.
