What a difference a week makes. The season opener for the Tallassee football team could not have been any worse last Friday. Fast-forward seven days. Tallassee beat rival Elmore County 25-9 at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium to pick up win No. 1 of 2025.
A big crowd got to see all 48 minutes. Last year’s game was ruled a no-contest after play was halted in the third quarter due to a threat.
The Tigers set the tone early with a six-play opening touchdown drive. Jaiden “J-Man” Gordon dashed to end zone on a 30-yard run. The sophomore scored all three Tallassee touchdowns on the night. He added a 10-yard score in the second quarter and a 78-yarder in the fourth. In all, Gordon had seven carries for 130 yards.

Elmore County scored its only TD on a 24-yard fourth-down completion from Gage Davis to Kason Moe in the first quarter.
It was ‘bend but don’t break’ for the Tallassee defense with timely stops throughout the evening.
“Hats off to the defense,” Tallassee head football coach L.A. O’Neal said. “They stood up. They had two safeties. They played some ball. They were flying around getting after the quarterback.”
O’Neal commented on the return of junior Trent Morris. Morris, a two-year starter at quarterback, broke his thumb on his throwing hand over the summer. On Friday night, he got his first action of the year on defense.
“Trent Morris is out there with a Q-tip on his hand. He called me Thursday and said, ‘I’m playing.’”
Tallassee is back at home next week with the opener to region play against Munford.
“We’ve got some things we’ve got to clean up,” O’Neal added, “but I’ll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day.”
Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. WTLS – Score 94.7/Fun 101.1 will broadcast the matchup beginning a t 6. Live video will be on Tallassee Times TV on YouTube.
