Talent Show Next Week

A $1,000 prize will be up for grabs with the upcoming “Alabama Has Talent” competition at the Tallassee Mount Vernon Performing Arts Center.

“I’ve been asked if there is going to be more than one prize. There’s only one,” event organizer Veronica Harris said. “The winner does take all.”

The show will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. There are 14 contestants who will each have five minutes to show off their talents and impress the judges.

“We’ve got great talent,” Harris said. “Alabama really does have talent. We have aerialists. We have folks who will be doing stuff with fire. We’ve got singers, dancers, rappers. We’ve got it all. I’m just blown away.”

Each participant made video submissions.

“I believe there is talent everywhere,” Harris stated. “What an opportunity to open Mount Vernon to the public for those who don’t know the area to see how beautiful it is.”

In addition to performances, there will other activities outside.

“We have some food vendors. We’ve got local businesses. They’ll be selling their homemade crafts but also food trucks. Businesses have donated. You buy a ticket; you might win a prize.”

Tickets for the talent show are $10 each. More information is available through the Alabama Has Talent website.
