Chamber Brings Back Yard of the Month

By Leigh Anne Butler

The Tallassee Area Chamber of Commerce’s Yard of the Month is back. The recognition of Yard of the Month is an excellent way to celebrate homeowners and businesses who help keep the Tallassee area beautiful.

Each month, four properties (one each week) will be recognized for their dedication to keeping their properties clean and beautiful.

The Tallassee Area Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee will select properties each month in the following areas: one yard in the Tallapoosa County side within the city limits, one yard in the Elmore County side within the city limits, one yard in nearby Tallapoosa County area outside of the city limits and one yard in nearby Elmore County area outside of the city limits.

Each winner will be recognized with a Yard of the Month sign, recognition on local media outlets and a gift certificate to a local nursery.

“We are looking forward to bringing this back,” Carmen Rodgers, executive director of the Tallassee Area Chamber of Commerce stated, “and I think the community is too. We’ve posted a few things on Facebook and there’s been a lot of feedback and a lot of people asking how they can get in on this.”

Ness Farmer, a horticulturist and member of the Tallassee Area Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Committee commented, “People do like to be recognized for keeping a nice yard. It doesn’t have to be all flowers; the overall appearance, the neatness, the health of the yard with an emphasis on curb appeal and we love creative elements.”

“Sometimes your yard can be so nice and the person next to you not so nice so hopefully this will encourage everybody to do their part to make Tallassee beautiful. It is a beautiful town,” Farmer added.

The Tallassee Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to expand their borders and include properties outside the city limits of Tallassee. “A lot of people in these (outlying) areas come to Tallassee to do their shopping and other things so we love being able to include them,” Rodgers explained.

Leon and Vickie Bowen, who live on Central Boulevard in East Tallassee are the first recipients of the Yard of the Month award.

“We love suggestions for the yards you think are worthy of Yard of the Month, so let us know what you think,” Rodgers stated.

“You can even nominate yourself if you’d like to,” Farmer concluded.
