WTLS has made a frequency change with one of its translators. The 106.9 FM channel in Tallassee is now on 101.1 FM. The move was made on Monday morning and will improve the station’s signal primarily towards the Lake Martin area to the north.
“We are excited to make the change,” said station owner Michael Butler. “This is a move for the better. We had to make a move a few years ago to the 106.9 frequency. That channel had some interference from a station out of the Birmingham area. The new 101.1 frequency is a cleaner channel. Listeners should notice the improvement.”

WTLS celebrated its 71st anniversary on the airwaves yesterday. The station’s maiden broadcast was on June 1, 1954 on 1300 AM.
WTLS was named “Station of the Year” by the Alabama Broadcasters Association in 2007. That same year, WTLS launched its first FM translator in Tallassee which originally broadcast at 106.5 FM before the move to 106.9. It has since added a second translator with a transmission on 94.7 FM at Pike Road.

All programming is streamed via the WTLS website at: www.1300wtls.com. Select programs, including Tallassee Tigers sports, are available on Facebook and Tallassee Times TV on YouTube.
