The Tallassee Board of Education has approved the recommendation by Superintendent Dr. Brock Nolin to hire Josh Harrison for assistant principal at the high school. The decision was confirmed at the March 18 meeting.

Harrison worked in the Academic Intervention Department at Wetumpka High School and served as an assistant coach with the football staff. He received a bachelor’s degree in history from Troy University and master’s in instructional leadership from the University of West Alabama.

He and his wife Rebekah have three children and attend First Baptist Church in Tallassee.

“With a passion for education and a commitment to student success, I am excited to support our students, teachers, and community in fostering a positive, thriving, and successful learning environment,” Harrison wrote on the school’s Facebook page. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff to ensure every student is known, valued, and inspired to reach their full academic and personal potential.”

Nolin said a pick for principal could be in place as soon as next month.

“We developed two committees made up of high school teachers and administrators to do interviews,” Nolin stated. “For the principal’s job, we’re still developing that pool. For the assistant principal, we had about 25 applicants. It’s hard to judge somebody just off a resume. If you’re looking at a principal, you’re trying to find somebody with a good track record of success.”

The pay scale for principal starts at $104,000 per year but increases based on having principal’s experience.

“If you’re a seasoned principal, you’ll get a three-year contract by Alabama Principal Contract Law. After the third year, it depends on how the wind’s blowing, whether you’re a superintendent or a principal. With this position, we’re offering a small moving stipend.”
