We also put a wrap on the winter season with a celebration. The Tallassee state champion wrestling team will have a pep rally on Wednesday, March 5 at Stumberg Gym. The undefeated squad and winners of both Class 1A-4A state championship tournaments will have a trophy presentation and unveiling of rings. Activities begin at 2:50 p.m.

The THS track team is off to a hot start. After three meets, the Tigers have won two. Tallassee was first at the season opener at Montgomery Academy. They were fourth overall the following week at Auburn. Most recently, the boys took first again at Montgomery Academy.

Mark Griffin claimed gold in the 400 meters at the MA Madness Meet No. 2. Tra’mel McCoy won silver in the 300-meter hurdles. JD McKenzie added a bronze in the 100 meters. It was bronze as well for Jay Terry in the triple jump and 200 meters and Eli Whittington in javelin. There were 18 teams that participated.

The Tallassee soccer teams swept Holtville on Tuesday night at 17 Springs in Millbrook. All-state star Irvin Delfin scored three goals in the 6-1 win for the varsity boys (5-3-2). The Tallassee baseball team spent much of last week in Montgomery and also went 2-2. The Tigers (5-6) played in the Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Classic at Riverwalk Stadium and Paterson Field and closed out the week at Percy Julian. In the 17-0 five-inning weekender against the Phoenix, Avery Brantley and Abram Whittington combined for a no-hitter.

The baseball Tigers’ games against Benjamin Russell have been rescheduled from Tuesday to Saturday. The doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. on March 8 in Alex City.
