The Tallassee Chamber of Commerce will be relocating soon. Currently located on Barnett Boulevard in the downtown district, the Chamber will soon be housed at City Hall.
“(It’s) mainly just for economic reasons,” said Jerry Cunningham, executive director of the Chamber. “We’re having to spend some much just to keep the building open. Plus, the things that go with it, power, water, internet and copier. We just decided to change some things. I recommended it to the board, and they agreed.”
The move is expected to be completed by April 1.
“The City of Tallassee is allowing us to use one of the rooms over there,” Cunningham added. “That’ll save money because we were spending a lot of our money just to keep the doors open.”

Cunningham will share one of the rooms used for titles, tags and drivers’ license renewals.
“It won’t be as visible a location. I loved where we were. This just makes more pragmatic and economic sense. That way we have more flexibility to do things in town rather than just pay bills.
“The relationship with the Chamber and the City has been very good. One thing people may not realize is that we’re not a part of the City. The City provides a stipend so we may have a place. The mayor doesn’t tell me what to do. She may make a request, and we’ll do everything that we can. I answer to a board of directors.”
