Program Launched for Veterans

Veteran Education, Training, & Support Inc. (VETS) held its grand opening on Feb. 8 in Kent. VETS empowers veterans in rural Alabama through comprehensive education, training and mental health support programs. Founded in 2019 as Operation Combat Bikesaver, VETS rebranded in April 2024 to better reflect its mission of enhancing the well-being and employability of veterans across all branches of the military.

VETS is dedicated to serving the often-overlooked veteran population residing in rural areas. With approximately 40 percent of veterans living in these locations, VETS recognizes the urgent need for accessible support systems. Our mission is to provide support programs for veterans that decrease suicide rates and improve mental health while enhancing their well-being with education and engaged training in the trade
arts.

“Our innovative programs are designed to not only address the unique challenges faced by veterans, including PTSD and anxiety, but also to equip them with practical skills for their future,” said Summer Ray, Program Director. “Whether it’s through hands-on training in trades like motorcycle and automotive mechanics or creative disciplines like woodworking and metal fabrication, we aim to create an environment
where veterans can find purpose and community.”

VETS offers a diverse curriculum that includes life skills training, trade-arts workshops and peer support groups. By fostering a strong sense of community among participants, VETS encourages veterans to share their experiences and support one another in their journeys toward healing and reintegration.

To further enhance its services, VETS is seeking assistance in key areas, including building upgrades and training for peer counseling. You can take part in this journey through volunteering or donations. By securing these resources, VETS aims to bolster its capacity to provide critical support to veterans and their families.

VETS invites community members and organizations to join us in our mission to transform the lives of veterans. For more information about our programs or to get involved, please visit www.vetsprograms.org or contact us at 334-852-0582 or info@vetsprograms.org.
