The Tallassee High School Indoor Track team competed at the AHSAA 4A/5A state meet this past weekend coming away with a Top 10 finish. The event is held annually at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Tigers had around 15 members on the team, five of which qualified for the state meet: Jayquavious Terry (long jump, triple jump), Mark Griffin (400 meters and 4 x 200-meter relay), Maliki Griffin (4 x 200-meter relay), Shawn Ward (60-meter hurdles, 4 x 200-meter relay), Amerian Magee (4 x 200-meter relay).
The highlight of the meet was senior Jayquavious Terry jumping his way to two state Medals, one silver and one bronze.

Terry narrowly missed gold in the triple jump by four inches jumping a personal record and new THS indoor record with a mark of 42’02 settling for the silver. In the long jump he jumped another personal record and THS Indoor record 20’7 for the bronze.
Senior hurdler Shawn Ward competed in his fourth straight indoor state meet and ran really close to a personal best. Junior Mark Griffin finished seventh in the 400-meter dash while running a personal record time of 52.1.
Tallassee head coach Danny Worley was happy with the effort.
“Indoor track has grown so much in the last decade,” Worley said. “Running times and jump distances that were winning gold medals just a few years ago are not even making the finals nowadays, so to have an athlete medal in two events is pretty special.”
Outdoor season starts this week.
