After eight seasons at the helm of the Tallassee High School basketball program, Coach Keiven Mixson is hanging up his whistle. Mixson has won over 100 games at Tallassee and is the second-longest tenured THS basketball coach only behind Woody Weaver, who coached from 1971-’87.
Mixson informed the team of his decision after a 78-57 loss at Stanhope Elmore on Tuesday.
“This was not an easy decision because I love coaching, building relationships with my players and chasing a state championship,” Mixson said. “My eight years at Tallassee have produced relationships that I will cherish the rest of my life. I will miss these relationships tremendously, but I feel I have reached the end here at Tallassee coaching and it’s time to give someone else the reins.”

The Tigers are 2-16 this season with Senior Night against Stanhope scheduled for Thursday and the area tournament the following week.
“You have to know when it’s time. We have talked about some of these things, and it’s time,” Mixson added. “I’m sorry the season hasn’t gone our way, but you never know what’s in store. Life is filled with peaks and valleys. The valleys make us stronger if we allow it. We’ve experienced both here at Tallassee.”
Mixson’s teams have had many peaks, winning three area tournament titles. His teams have reached six sub-regionals and two regionals.
The 2019-’20 squad went 27-5 setting the single-season record for wins at Tallassee. Under Mixon, the Tigers also set the school mark for consecutive home wins at 27 from Nov. 15, 2018 – Dec. 3, 2020.

“Many thanks to all my current and former players. You have given my life so much joy. I will be cheering for you. Thank you to Tallassee City Schools for believing in me. I hope I have represented you well.”
