Several agencies were called out on an early holiday morning to extinguish a fire in East Tallassee. The 911 call was received at 4:14 on Dec. 20 to Powers Avenue.
“Weather conditions at the time of call were 35 degrees with heavy frost,” said Tallassee Fire Department Chief Eric Jones. “Fire personnel arrived to find heavy fire conditions. Personnel secured a water supply and deployed hose lines to start fire attack.”
Tallassee volunteer crews were assisted by Friendship and Reeltown Fire Departments, as well as Tallassee Police and Public Works, Haynes Ambulance and Alabama Power Company.

“Crews brought the situation under control and extinguished to fire that resulted in heavy damage to the residential structure, heavy damage to a vehicle parked in the rear of the structure and moderate damage to an adjacent residential property,” Jones continued. “Crews performed salvage and overhaul of the structure and determined the area of fire origin in the rear northeast area of the structure. Due to the considerable damage, the cause of the fire was undetermined.”
Jones requested a site visit from the Alabama State Fire Marshall’s office which was conducted later the same day. The state office confirmed the location of origin but also could not determine the cause of the blaze.
Jones thanked fellow first responders who aided in response to the call. He also released a log of response times after the original call.
