Calendar set for new school year

It's right around the corner. Next week, teachers in Tallassee report for the start of the 2019-20 school year. The first day of classes will be Aug. 7.

"With 12-month employees, in June a lot of people will take whatever vacation time they have left. Once July gets here, we're all back on pace zeroing in on the start to school," Tallassee City Schools superintendent Wade Shipman said.

Open House is Aug. 5, when parents have the opportunity to meet teachers for the year ahead.

"We have a Twitter and Facebook account. We have an app as well," Shipman said. "We have a way to put out a message and it sends it out to all of our social media outlets at the same time. That works well for us."

It's just another way with technology to stay up to date with the latest happenings with the school system through instant notifications.

The school calendar has been released via those platforms. The final day of the first semester will be Dec. 20 kicking off Christmas break. The second semester begins on Jan. 7. Spring break is March 23-27. The final day of school is May 21 with graduation on May 22.
