Another cornhole tournament is scheduled for Veterans Day

Sports gin gives locals "something to do"

Brent Tennyson has opened the Sports Gin on the Taylor Bonded Warehouse property at 1295 Highway 229 in Tallassee. The site has housed the Talisi Wrestling Club youth wrestling program and will now offer additional sports and activities under Tennyson's management.

"We had to move, so I decided I wanted to do a few extra things," Tennyson said. "We've had some people talk about a ping pong tournament and cornhole tournament, so we went with the cornhole tournament first last month. We had over 200 people that day. We had 20 teams. We filled the place up."

With the success of the inaugural cornhole tourney, Tennsyon is adding another. It will be this weekend.

"We've got two tournaments going on Nov. 11, an open tournament and a ladies tournament. I didn't know how popular cornhole was."

A $200 cash prize will be awarded in both tournaments.

"It's mainly for fun. It gives somebody something to do. We're going to be able to do baseball and softball. I'm trying to line up some baseball and softball pitching instructors. We've been speculating a dodge ball league. I don't know what else I can fit in there right now. My goal is to do a membership.

"You always hear, 'We have nothing to do.' So, I'm trying to do a little something to have something to do."

Tennyson will be adding a donation bin for hose who would be willing to drop off sports equipment and apparel.

"I'm going to try and get with the local baseball and softball leagues and let them hand it out. I don't want to do it just in Tallassee but in Eclectic and Reeltown as well."
