Golden Arches aglow again

By Michael Butler

There was a song in the 1980s called, "Don't Know What You Got 'Til It's Gone." Bonus points if you remember the artist. It was by a heavy metal band called Cinderella.

The words are true, and I'm not talking about losing the love of your life. I'm referring to the world-renowned fast food chain McDonald's. The local staple was certainly missed during its brief hiatus for renovations this holiday season.

The golden arches are shining again on Gilmer Avenue at Tallassee's favorite hangout. And Mickey D's fans say it was worth the wait.

"It's beautiful, love the new look. A lot of hard work went into it, great job," Laura Harris wrote on Facebook.

Brenda Moore also commented. "My Kids and I are happy it’s back going and open," she said. "It's very nice inside and looks great."

Among the changes include ordering stations and two drive-thru lanes.

McDonald's will have its official grand re-opening on Saturday, Jan. 20 with a piece of Americana in attendance - Ronald McDonald - from 1 -3 p.m. Magician and balloon artist Gary Ledbetter will also be there from 12 - 2.

Two $250 retail gift cards will be given away with the drawing at 2:30.  1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will be broadcasting live from 11:30 - 2:30.
