Tallassee has new pediatrician

By Michael Butler

"We are here to provide a service," said Dr. Fazle Matin who has opened a pediatric practice in East Tallassee. Primary Care Medical Center opened on Sept. 8.

"I've been in this profession for 25 years," said Matin. "I was medical director at Central Alabama Comprehensive Health for 15 years. My specialty is pediatrics. We are here 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

Matin gives his personal phone number on the office's voice mail and states that he will truly see any patient anytime.

He has owned his own practice since 2013 in Tuskegee. Matin's office manager LaTrina Thornton has worked with him for ten years.

"Years ago we looked at Tallassee," Thornton said. "We've been researching the pediatric and adolescent population, and there's not a pedatrician here."

Pediatrics is defined as newborns to age 21, but depending upon insurance coverage it can range up to 26-year-olds.

In addition to Matin and Thornton, the office staff will also include nurse Arlinda Williams and office assistant Tanarius Patterson.

"If somebody needs us, we'll be there," Matin noted. "If somebody can't pay, we'll do it for free."

Services will include newborn screenings, Medicaid physicals, sports physicals, immunizations and lab work.
