Three on a String opens MCAC season

By Michael Butler

For more than four decades, Three on a String has been entertaining audiences with music and humor. The group has performed on multiple occasions in Tallassee and is returning to kick off the McCraney-Cottle Arts Council's new season on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Tallassee High School Auditorium.

"Actually now, it's Three on a String plus one," MCAC director Mona Mills said. "I try to get them every three years. They've been here off and on as long as I've been connected over 20 years. They are funny and play all kinds of different stringed instruments. They also frequently appear on Alabama Public Television."

Mills said it will be a "good night of good music" as so many have come to expect from Three on a String since they formed the ensemble in 1971 in Steel, Ala.

The season schedule is coming together according to Mills with some shows yet to be finalized.

"I have the next two but haven't published anything," she said. "The next event will be Jerry Cunningham's Christmas program. We'll have Missoula Children's Theatre and "Gulliver's Travels." It's going to be a little bit later in January."

Donations will be accepted at the door for the show on Tuesday night. For more information, call Mills at 334-201-4892.
