Carroll recaptured in Washington state

Staff Report

Dylan Keith Carroll is back in custody after escaping from Frank Lee Youth Center in Deatsville on Sept. 22. The man charged with setting downtown Tallassee ablaze back in November of 2009 was apprehended in the state of Washington.

Carroll was recaptured at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Port Angeles. He was on the run for more than a week.

Alabama Department of Corrections Investigations and Intelligence Division worked with U.S. Marshals since his escape.

Carroll was taken in without incident by Clallam County Sheriff Deputies after a public tip was received.  Carroll was in a vehicle with a stolen Texas license plate when he was arrested.

The 24-year-old was serving a 13-year sentence on a second degree arson conviction for the fire that destroyed Smarty Pants Consignment Shop and heavily damaged the Hotel Talisi. He is awaiting extradition back to Alabama to face charges for the escape and other offenses.
