Trustmark honors Dopson

By Michael Butler

Arnold Dopson spent 50 years as the local banker in Tallassee.  The longtime Bank of Tallassee president was honored posthumously on Tuesday with the presentation of the Arnold Dopson Board Room at Trustmark Bank.

Dopson, who passed away in March at the age of 84, was beloved by so many in the Tallassee area.
“He was like a father to most of us,” said Penny Sorrell, branch manager of Trustmark’s Tallassee location.  “All of the employees miss him very much.  He was in here every day.”

Trustmark Regional President Linwood McClain presented Dopson’s widow Joann with a proclamation recognizing the board room in her late husband’s memory.

“I think Mr. Dopson was synonymous to this bank with his longevity and character,” McClain stated. “We appreciated his friendship to our bank and the community.”

The board room that now bears his name will continue Dopson’s legacy.

“It will remind us of him,” said Sorrell. “This whole bank reminds us of him.”
