Three arrested in DYB break-in

Staff Report

It has been a recurring problem, theft and vandalism at city parks. Tallassee Parks and Recreation Director Rick Golden spoke of another issue at the Dixie Youth Baseball Complex over the weekend.

A door was kicked in at the concession stand at the East Tallassee location. "About $300 worth of candy was taken," Golden said. "We did get a tip on a case not related to ours. A guy had some property stolen and was able to get some pictures of the perpetrators. As I understand it, as that case was being investigated they were able to identify some of the products stolen from our concession stand."

Tallassee police announced the arrest of three individuals on Wednesday, March 25. Two of the suspects are juveniles. 19-year-old white male, Michael White of Tallassee, has also been charged with Burglary in the 3rd degree and Theft of Property in the 3rd degree.

It is believed that the incident occured on Saturday night, March 21. The juveniles have been released to their parents pending prosecution in Tallapoosa County juvenile court. White was transported to Tallapoosa County Jail to await bond.

Additional charges related to the same case were handed down on Thursday, March 26. 23-year-old white male, Gregory Motes, was apprehended on the same charges. He is also awaiting bond in the Tallapoosa County Jail.

"Since I've been the director, I've probably been to juvenile court three times," said Golden. "I'll continue to that. If you do that and get caught, I promise you will go to court. You will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"It's taxpayers facilities. The citizens of this town pay for that stuff. I take it personal when people go and destroy things for no reason. I'll go to juvenile court as many times as I have to, so the citizens get some kind of payback for the damages."
