Softball Tigers runner-up in tourney

The Tallassee softball team beat the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in Class 4A last week. The Tigers were ranked No. 9 in the latest ASWA poll.

Tallassee beat No. 3 Holtville on Thursday to earn a share of the Area 5 title. The 12-11 win went 12 innings in Holtville. The Tigers had 15 hits. Belle Haynes and Jordan Walters had three hits each. Choloe Baynes, Sally Shipman and Anslee Osborne added two each. Haylee Osborne and Lexi Love also had a hit apiece. Sinclair Cole hit a homerun.

Haylee Osborne and Jordan Walters pitched six innings each. Walters picked up the win.

On Friday, a coin flip determined the host for the upcoming area tournament. Holtville won the toss and will be at home for the tourney April 27 - May 5.

Tallassee played in the Beauregard Tournament on Friday and Saturday and placed second overall. The Tigers beat top-ranked Alabama Christian 6-5 and lost to Stanhope Elmore 4-2 in pool play. In bracket play, THS beat Dadeville 7-3, Auburn 5-2, and LAMP 2-1 to advance to the championship game. The Tigers lost in the rematch with ACA 6-0.

On Monday, the Tigers shut down Catholic 9-1 with 14 hits. Jordan Walters threw a three-hitter for the win. She also had three hits with RBIs. Lexi Love had three hits with RBIs. Belle Haynes, Madelyn Martin and Chloe Baynes had two hits each. Baynes added two stolen bases to total 50 for the season.

Tallassee's final home game of the season will be on Tuesday night against Prattville Christan Academy at 5:00 p.m. Tallassee's first game of the area tournament will be on Thursday, May 3 at 3:00 vs. Dadeville. The Tigers have surpassed last year's win total of 24 games to set a new team record with a 28-11 mark this season.
