Girls win Opelika tourney

Tallassee's softball Tigers are the Opelika Tournament champions. The Tigers won last week's two-day tourney and are now 21-9 this season.

The Tigers lost a couple of close games in pool play on Friday to Shelby County (8-6) and Vestavia Hills (2-1).

That all changed in bracket play on Saturday as THS went 3-0 on their way to the title. Tallassee beat Robert E. Lee 12-0, Vestavia 7-6 and Shelby County 6-2 in the final to take the trophy.

Belle Haynes was 10-for-17 with three stolen bases, five RBI, three doubles and a homerun in the five games. Chloe Baynes went 8-for-14 with five stolen bases. Lexi Love was 10-for-16 with two homers, three doubles and 10 RBIs. Anslee Osborne and Sally Shipman added a homerun a piece.

Casen Patterson, Haylee Osborne, Jordan Walters, Lulu Isbell, Madelyn Martin, Sinclair Cole , Taylor Boatwright all had two hits each.

Sinclair Cole picked up the victory on the mound against Lee. Walters got the win against Vestavia. Haylee Osborne pitched a one-hitter in the championship game win over Shelby.

Tallassee has its final regular season matchup on Tuesday, April 17 vs. Valley with junior varsity and varsity action starting at 4:30. It is also Senior Night.
