Reese All-Metro selection

Staff Report

Two-time state champion wrestler Kennon Reese is a Montgomery Advertiser All-Metro pick. Reese is the 132-pound choice.

Reese was 50-4 as the Class 1A-5A champion. The Tallassee High School senior's four losses were to out of state opponents and one in state that Reese moved up in class to wrestle.

In his final match, Reese topped Dora's Austin Everett with a 5-1 decision. Everett entered the match with a 64-1 record. The match was a rematch of last year's final. There was some "smack talk" prior to the showdown, Reese recalled.

"I let it fuel the fire," he said. "I kind of like it. It makes me want to work harder to accomplish my goals and I guess you could say, upset someone that's 'supposed to beat me.' Supposedly I got lucky. That's what they were all saying."

Reese was a two-time runner-up before finishing with two championships. He was five-time qualifier for state. His record from 8th to 12th grade was 215-49. His record from 9th to 12th grade was 182-27. He started wrestling with Tallassee's youth program at the age of eight.

"Kennon has had a career filled with championships and first place finishes," said Mask. He is an awesome young man who has worked hard to accomplish his goals.  He will be remembered as one of the greatest to wear the purple and gold."
