Hoops team sidelined with COVID

By Michael Butler

COVID has taken the Tallassee varsity boys basketball team off the courts.

The Tigers were scheduled to play next vs. Calhoun on Tuesday, Dec. 8 - a highly anticipated game featuring one of the nation's top point guards in JD Davison.

That game has already been rescheduled for Jan. 14 in Tallassee. The Tigers will also return a trip to Calhoun on Jan. 28.

In all, there are six games prior to the Christmas break that will be postponed or canceled. That includes games scheduled for the varsity girls and junior varsity teams.

THS head coach Keiven Mixson says that make-ups will be tough.

"We don't have a Christmas tourney. We probably won't play again until after January," Mixson said. "You're trying to cram games in now. It's hard. We want to reschedule, but I don't see anywhere to reschedule. Most of the coaches have been understanding. They're pretty full too."

The Tigers played four games in five days last week winning three of four. Tallassee beat Loachapoka in the home opener 63-45 on Tuesday. They topped Reeltown 79-27 on Thursday. They fell to Auburn 80-53 on Friday and rebounded with a win over John Carroll 57-41 on Saturday.

Tallassee is now 3-2 on the season. The team is scheduled to return to action in the area tournament in Holtville Jan. 7-9.
