Fate lies in area tourney games

The old adage, "loser go home," applies. The future of Tallassee's basketball seasons for the boys and girls teams will come do to one game a piece.
Both teams will be in Montgomery for the area tournament at Brewbaker Tech. The Rams host all games on Feb. 5 and Feb. 7.
In basketball, teams are seeded based on their regular season area record. The area tournament champion and runner-up advance to the sub-regional round of the playoffs.
The Tallassee boys are the No. 2 seed. The girls are No. 3. Both teams face Valley on Tuesday. The girls game tips of at 3:30 p.m. The boys play afterward at 5:00.
The Tallassee boys were tied for second in the standings with Valley. A coin toss won by the Tigers gave them the No. 2 seed. The teams were to play each other regardless of the coin landing on heads or tails.
"Last year, I lost the coin flip," THS principal Matt Coker said. "We had to go to Dadeville. This year I won, but it didn't really matter, except we get to wear the white jerseys."
Last season, Tallassee tied for first in the standings. The Tigers beat Dadeville on their home floor for the area tournament championship.
The top-seeded Brew Tech boys and girls play Beauregard in the two other games slated for Tuesday. The winners advance to the title games on Thursday and punch their tickets for the sub-regionals which begin the following week.

Tuesday, Feb. 5:
3:30 - No. 3 Tallassee girls (6-17/2-4) vs. No. 2 Valley girls (11-10/4-2)
5:00 - No. 3 Valley boys (6-13/3-3) vs. No. 2 Tallassee boys (21-6/3-3)
6:30 - No. 4 Beauregard (1-13/0-5) vs. No. 1 Brew Tech (11-3/2-0)
8:00 -
No. 4 Beauregard (10-12/2-4) vs. No. 1 Brew Tech (18-8/4-2)
Thursday, Feb. 7:
5:00 - No. 3 Tallassee/No. 2 Valley girls winner vs. No. 4 Beauregard/No. 1 Brew Tech winner
6:30 - No. 3 Valley/No. 2 Tallassee boys winner vs. No. 4 Beauregard/No. 1 Brew Tech winner
