Mullins works out with NFL teams

By Michael Butler

Hunter Mullins has been making the circuit in the National Football League. The UAB graduate has put his punting skills on display for three teams in mini-camps.

"It was a really great experience, living up to everything," he said. "I got to show my talent. That's all you can really ask for.

Mullins has worked out for the Phoenix Cardinals, New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens.

Breaking into the league as a punter is a tall task. The standard is to have one or two punters per roster.

"It's kind of just a waiting game," said Mullins. "I know a lot of guys that are sitting at the house too that haven't gotten the opportunity. There's a lot of luck involved.

"I want to get signed, but sometimes I just kind of step back and am like, 'I'm getting to put on a Cardinals helmet!' That's cool. That was awesome. I was getting to wear their jerseys. It was a neat experience. It's crazy to think it's a hobby I picked up in high school. Now, I'm getting the opportunity to show my talents to all these NFL coaches."
