Documentary to be shown in theater

The much anticipated documentary on the Tallassee/Reeltown football rivalry is about to hit the theater - Tallassee's Mt. Vernon Theatre. There will be four showings during game week.

"Bridging the Gap" will explore the history of the "Battle of the Tallapoosa." The Football Film Fanatics production by Emmy-winning producer Myron Williams interviewed more than 80 people with ties to the game.

"Both communities take tremendous pride in their athletic programs," Williams said. " The richness and history of this rivarly means so much to so many people."

Due to COVID-19 regulations on social distancing, seating will be limited. Just 70 tickets will be availalble for each day in the theater that which actually has a capacity of 565 seats. Those attending will be required to wear masks. Complimentary masks will be provided if needed. Each attendee will be screened for temperatures as well. Anyone with a recorded temperature exceeding 100.4 degrees will not be permitted.

Football Film Fanatics is based in Miami, Fla. Brandon Akinbiyi is the executive producer.

"We are extremely blessed and excite ot present this film for the first time in Tallassee at the historic Mt. Vernon Theatre," Akinbiyi said. "Our organization has been in contact with local and state officials to provide the people of the Tallassee community a safe viewing environment for each individual in attendance."

The first airing will be on Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. The program will be shown at the same time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21-23. A matinee screening will be at 12 p.m. on the day of the football game, Thursday, Aug. 20. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to show times.

Tickets are $15 each and have equally been distributed for sale weekdays at WTLS and WACQ from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Tallassee and Reeltown High Schools from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. until sold out. All tickets are general admission. No tickets will be sold at the theater.
