"Truck" powers Tigers to victory

By Michael Butler

It was the Truck Griffin show. The Tallassee senior do-everything player scored all five THS touchdowns in the Tigers' 35-28 win over Beauregard on Friday night at J. E. "Hot" O'Brien Stadium.

Tallassee improved to 4-4 with the win ending a six-game losing streak against the Hornets. Beauregard finished its season with a 1-9 record.

The 35 points scored was a season high for Tallassee, following up the program's first shutout loss in 97 games last week at Charles Henderson.

It looked as though Beauregard would continue its recent mastery over the Tigers when they took a 21-13 lead late in the third quarter, but Tallassee answered with the next 22 points to grab a 35-21 lead.

Dalton Lanier had an interception and fumble recovery caused by Will Blocker.

"To hear the news Friday night that we're out of the playoffs, to practice hard and catch Beauregard when they're playing their best football, our seniors couldn't hardly walk. Most of them played most of the game. It meant enough to them.

"Since I've been at Tallassee, we've been 0 for against Beauregard. Well now, I know these guys wanted to win more than they've won, but now they have one that they can remember. I'm proud for them."

The Tigers will wrap up the season on Friday with Senior Night vs. Elmore County in Tallassee. There are 13 seniors who will be suiting up for the for the purple and gold one last time.

1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will broadcast live beginning at 6. Kickoff is at 7. Coverage is also available on Tallassee Times TV through YouTube, Spectrum Channel 97 and the TuneIn app.
