Beuregard loss costs Tigers playoff berth

By Gary Buchanan

Another Friday night, another close game, another disappointing loss for the Tigers as Tallassee falls to Beauregard 26-21. With the loss, Tallassee’s record is 5-4 overall, 3-3 in region play. The region tiebreakers put Tallassee out of the playoffs for the first time since the 2007 season.

The teams traded scores early. Trent Cochran-Gill put the Tigers on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run. Beauregard answered with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Quatavious Seroyer to Isaiah McKissic.

The Hornets put up two scores in the second quarter. Antavious Martin had an 11-yard touchdown run. McKissic hauled in his second touchdown of the night on a 17-yard catch.

In between those Beauregard scores, Markevious Matthews found the endzone on a 23-yard run. The extra point was missed. The Hornets led at the half, 20-13.

Both defenses pitched shutouts in the third quarter. The second half remained scoreless until Kalvin Levett broke free on a 45-yard touchdown run. Cochran-Gill’s two-point conversion put the Tigers on top, 21-20, with 5:32 left in the game.

A few minutes later, Ashton Moss rambled in on a 30-yard, game-winning run. A failed two-point try left the score 26-21.

Senior linebacker Cody Kelley led the way for the Tigers on defense. Kelley also recovered a blocked punt. His play earned him Spectrum Player of the Game honors.

Tallassee closes out the season Friday night at Burt-Haynie Field in Eclectic. Kickoff for that game is set for 7:00 p.m. 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will broadcast live beginning at 6. The game will be simulcast on Spectrum Channel 97 with audio streaming on the TuneIn app and video streaming on YouTube.
