Tigers snap Carroll streak

By Gary Buchanan

Something had to give Friday night in Ozark. Tallassee had a six-game win streak against Carroll. Carroll had a 25-game regular season win streak. In dramatic fashion, the Tigers extended their winning streak over Carroll to seven games with a 24-21 victory.

The Tigers drew first blood when Markevious Matthews darted into the endzone from two yards out. Carroll responded with 21 unanswered points in the second and third quarters. The Eagles held a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter when Matthews struck again with an 18-yard touchdown run. Kalvin Levett tied the game on a dazzling 74-yard scoring run of his own.

The two teams exchanged possessions until Tallassee was able to put together a drive down to the ten-yard line of Carroll. Senior Quinton Jeter came onto the field with 51.7 seconds left and calmly booted the game winning 27-yard field goal.

Coach Mike Battles was proud of his senior kicker. “Quinton did what he’s out here to do, go win another one.” Jeter was also perfect on extra points, as he has been all year. His performance earned him the Spectrum Player of the Game.

Battles also praised the play of the Tiger defense. “Our defense made some big stops. We had some new guys that dug in and played great at linebacker.  When you win, everybody looks better, and everything feels better.”

Tallassee now stands at 3-1 on the year, 1-1 in region play.

The Tigers return to J. E. “Hot” O’Brien stadium Friday night to host the Early County Panthers from Blakely, Ga. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. 1300 WTLS/106.5 FM will broadcast live beginning at 6.
