TYFL gauges interest

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee Youth Football League season got sidelined due to COVID-19 last year. The plan is to be back on the playing field this fall.

TYFL representatives have put out a feeler online to get a better understanding of expected numbers for the 2021 season. A pre-registration form has been posted on the TYFL website.

"We ended 2019 on a good note," TYFL president Matthew Rogers said. "We planned our (2020) registration. In March everything got shut down. We couldn't set up to do our signups. It got pushed back to May and pushed back to June. When we looked at the numbers, we realized we couldn't have a season. It hurt missing out, but people were not signing kids up."

Children from age 4-12 are eligible to participate in football and cheerleading.

"We have pre-registration going on and are going to run it through March 31 to gauge our numbers," Rogers added. "We want to get our numbers back up and build some excitement for football."

No payment is due at this time. For more details, go to the website or Facebook page.

"It's not a commitment. We just want to see where we are," said Rogers. "We will have a registration day and big cookout and re-introduction to the community that Tallassee Youth Football is back. That event will be on May 1 from 11-2 at J. E. "Hot" O'Brien Stadium. We're going to have free food and drinks. We're going to have some inflatable slides and uniform fitting as well. Plus, the football players and hopefully cheerleaders will hang out with the young kids. These are our future Tigers."
